I served in Berlin (McNair Barracks) Co. B 3rd. Bn., 6th. Inf. from fall of 1960 to spring of 1962. I was there when the wall was constructed. My older brother (Bill) was in the Air Force, and stationed at Templehoff part of the time I was there. Very interesting and enjoyable times.

I had the honor and privilege to be assigned to the 3d Bn, 6th Inf from 1972-1976. A great unit with a lot of great men. I also served in Berlin from 1983-1986. One year as NCOIC of the HHC and Seperate Companies, Andrews Barracks and 2 years as Admin Supvervisor in the Office of the U.S. Commander of Berlin. Truly remarkable assignment. Outstanding people from Major General Mitchell, USCOB, Col Jacl Clark, Chief of Staff to all of the military and civilians who served with dedication and honor.

Commo Platoon. HCC. 6th Inf. 68-69. Forget which Batt. Lucky day when I got orders for Germany rather than the "other place." Loved the city life, people, frauleins, food etc. Best though, was living with such a great bunch of guys from all over the land. New Yorkers, Southern boys, Brothers and all in between. By the way you can make curry wurst really easily. Fry up some wursts - make sause from catsup, splash of worschester sauce, and curry powder...that's all it is. Cheers |

I was assigned to Field Ofc Schinnen (The Netherlands), Border Operations Detachment, 42d MP Group (Customs) Apr '76-Mar '79. While there, there was a program to visit Berlin for either a 3 or 5 day visit. Due to being married and having a young son with severe medical problems, I couldn't take part. I've always regretted that! Wish I could have seen Berlin back then and that I could afford a trip now! Mike Austing Dennison, OH |
