Dear Mr. Geiger,
Hello. My name is Michelle Platts and I am the granddaughter of James O. Atkins. He was the tail gunner in your report about the "Slowball".
My grandfather passed away from cancer in Dec. 1998. Recently I have begun researching my grandfather's history, especially his WWII days. I came across your report a few days ago on the internet and I must say that I was very excited and surprised to see it. My family was not aware that this interview with my grandfather had taken place. My father only knew that someone from Germany had contacted my grandfather about his downed plane being recovered. The report has given us such wonderful insight into that terrible day on Aug. 3. My Grandfather very rarely talked about his WWII days. If he did, very little information was given.
I have e-mailed your report to other family members and we would like to thank you for your interest and information in this important part of my grandfather's history. It is a shame that my grandfather is not with us to share this report with .If you have any additional information, we would love for you to share it with us.
Thank you again for all the hard work you put into this report.
Regards,
Michelle A. Platts |
